Three women and a man were gunned down in a brazen midday shooting at the Hillwatch Informal Settlement in Kabah, Kariega, on Monday, leaving another man injured and sparking a murder investigation.
The victims, aged between 18 and 31, were allegedly standing with a group of people when a lone gunman opened fire at around 12:00.
When police arrived at the scene, they discovered the bodies of three women and a 27-year-old man, all of whom had died from gunshot wounds.
A fifth victim, a man who was also struck by gunfire, survived the attack and was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has opened cases of murder and attempted murder as detectives work to piece together the circumstances surrounding the deadly attack.
Police said the motive for the shooting remains unknown, and no arrests have been made.
