Five suspects, aged between 33 and 39, were arrested in Kuruman on Tuesday after they were allegedly found in possession of suspected stolen cattle valued at approximately R60,000.
Police say the arrests followed intelligence-driven information that led officers to a feeding lot at about 18:15, where the suspects were traced and found with five cattle.
During questioning, the suspects were unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for their possession of the livestock, prompting further investigation. A 60-year-old lawful owner was later called to the scene, where he positively identified all five cattle as his property.
The suspects were immediately arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen property. Police also confiscated a single-cab bakkie allegedly used in the commission of the crime.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Kuruman Magistrate’s Court later this week.
Acting District Commissioner of the John Taolo Gaetsewe District, Brigadier Kenneth Baloyi, praised officers for their swift response, saying their action prevented a significant loss to the cattle owner.
