Limpopo police seize dagga worth over R500,000

Police in Sekhukhune, Limpopo, have arrested a 44-year-old man and confiscated dagga with an estimated street value exceeding R500,000 following an intelligence-driven operation on Wednesday, 17 June 2026.

According to police, officers acted on a tip-off regarding a vehicle suspected of transporting a large quantity of dagga into the Sekhukhune policing area. The information led police to Steelbridge in Ga-Malekana village, where they intercepted a silver-grey Toyota Hilux bakkie matching the description provided.

The vehicle was stopped while entering the area and searched with the driver’s consent. During the search, officers discovered a substantial amount of dagga packed in black plastic bags and loaded onto the bakkie.

Police said the driver was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the origin or possession of the illicit substance. He was immediately arrested on charges related to the possession of dagga.

The confiscated dagga weighed approximately 258.251 kilograms and was seized as evidence.

The 44-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Sekhukhune Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 18 June 2026, where he will face a charge of possession of dagga.

Police have welcomed the successful operation, highlighting the importance of community cooperation and intelligence-sharing in combating drug-related crimes. Investigations into the source and intended destination of the seized dagga are continuing.
