The Economic Freedom Fighters has condemned a court application by the Helen Suzman Foundation seeking to remove EFF leader Julius Malema from the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
The application, filed in the Western Cape High Court, argues that Parliament should determine whether Malema is still fit to serve on the JSC following his criticism of judges and judicial decisions.
The EFF described the move as politically motivated and accused the foundation of trying to silence criticism of the judiciary.
The party also criticised the foundation for allegedly remaining silent during the Phala Phala scandal involving President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The EFF said it would continue to challenge corruption and defend the constitutional right to criticise institutions of power, including the judiciary.
