Woman arrested for allegedly attempting to bribe Limpopo police officer with R4 000

A 53-year-old woman is expected to appear in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court after she allegedly attempted to bribe a police officer with R4 000 in exchange for the release of her husband.

The incident allegedly occurred at about 21:30 on Saturday, 29 August 2026, at the Mankweng Community Service Centre (CSC).

According to police, a Constable attached to the Polokwane Public Order Policing (POPS) unit was busy writing a docket when the woman approached him.

The woman, from Zone 1 Extension in Seshego, allegedly offered the officer R4 000 to secure the release of her husband, who was in police custody on a charge of dealing in dagga.

Police said the Constable did not solicit, request or accept the money and warned the woman that her actions were unlawful.

Despite the warning, she allegedly removed the cash from her pocket and forced it into the officer’s hands.

The Constable immediately arrested her on a charge of bribery.

“The member’s actions demonstrate that police officers must remain committed to upholding the law, regardless of the circumstances,” said Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers.

Scheepers commended the officer for his integrity and professionalism in refusing to be compromised.

The suspect is expected to appear in court on Monday, 31 August, while police investigations continue.
