Julius Mkhwanazi, the suspended deputy chief of the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD), is set to appear before the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Mkhwanazi was arrested following his testimony at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, where allegations of corruption and misconduct within the EMPD surfaced. His arrest comes amid intensifying scrutiny over alleged irregularities in the metro police department.
He is facing multiple charges, including fraud, corruption, and defeating the ends of justice. Authorities allege that his actions formed part of a broader pattern of misconduct linked to abuse of office.
The case has sparked widespread public interest, with growing calls for his immediate dismissal from his position due to the seriousness of the allegations.
Mkhwanazi is expected to formally respond to the charges during his court appearance, as the legal process begins to unfold.
