Mamelodi Sundowns made a winning start to their Betway Premiership campaign after edging TS Galaxy 3-2 in a thrilling encounter at Mbombela Stadium.
Sundowns took the lead through Brayan León, who calmly converted from the penalty spot after Tashreeq Matthews was fouled by Junior Zindoga.
Galaxy responded in the 33rd minute when they found the equaliser with a low effort that went through goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.
The match remained tightly contested after the break, with both sides creating opportunities as they searched for the decisive goal.
Sundowns eventually produced a dramatic late comeback, with substitute Sphelele Mkhulise scoring twice in the closing stages to turn the match in the Brazilians’ favour.
The victory gives Miguel Cardoso’s side an early boost as they begin their title campaign, while Galaxy will rue letting the match slip away after competing strongly for much of the encounter.
