The murder case against Sotheni Matipandile, who is accused in connection with the murder of Madlanga Commission witness D, Marius van der Merwe, has been postponed to 2 November 2026.
The postponement is reportedly to allow investigators to conduct further investigations, particularly into cellphone evidence that could be crucial to the State’s case.
Matipandile faces 16 charges, including murder and conspiracy to commit murder. He was arrested on 14 March 2026.
Investigators have also completed cellphone mapping and plotting, which is expected to form a key part of the forensic evidence presented in the case.
The cellphone evidence is expected to assist investigators in tracking Matipandile’s movements in the days leading up to the alleged murder and could potentially place him at locations relevant to the investigation.
The matter will return to court on 2 November 2026, when further progress in the investigation is expected to be placed on record.
