KwaBhaca dagga shipment worth R500 000 intercepted on Cape Town-bound bus

Members of the Gompo Rapid Rail police unit arrested three suspects after intercepting a bus allegedly transporting a large quantity of dagga from KwaBhaca to Cape Town.

According to police, officers received information from a reliable source on 23 May 2026 about a bus carrying drugs. Acting swiftly, members located the bus parked on Station Street near the police offices and approached the driver for permission to search the luggage compartment.

During the search, officers discovered a large quantity of dagga with an estimated street value of R500 000 hidden among the luggage. Police said nobody initially claimed ownership of the drugs.

The search continued and officers allegedly found another large quantity of dagga inside a backpack belonging to one of the passengers.

The bus driver, his assistant and the passenger were immediately arrested. The suspects, aged 33, 42 and 50, are expected to appear before the KuGompo Magistrate’s Court on 25 May 2026 facing charges of possession and dealing in dagga.

Police confirmed that the bus used to transport the drugs will also be seized as evidence in the case.
