Komani administrative Clerk accused of theft of public funds

The case against 57-year-old Liziwe Eudocia Mxi has been postponed to 26 May 2026 for transfer to the Komani Regional Court.

Mxi was arrested by the Komani-based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation unit of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, also known as the Hawks, on 8 May 2026 in connection with allegations of theft involving public funds.

She appeared before the Komani Magistrate’s Court on the same day and was released on warning.

According to reports, Mxi worked as an administrative clerk at the Veterinary Laboratory under the Department of Agriculture during the 2023 and 2024 financial period.

It is alleged that she was responsible for receiving payments from members of the public and depositing the money into the department’s official bank account. However, investigators claim she failed to deposit some of the funds and instead unlawfully used the money for personal gain.

The Hawks’ investigation allegedly uncovered a financial loss of about R60 000 suffered by the State.
