A suspect allegedly linked to the killing of two KwaZulu-Natal Crime Intelligence officers has been shot dead during a police operation in Inanda.
The suspect was reportedly cornered by police in the area, resulting in a shootout during which he was fatally wounded.
The latest development is linked to the April 2026 killing of Captain Louis Nel and Sergeant Mandla Khuzwayo, who were ambushed while travelling in an unmarked police vehicle in Mount Edgecombe.
Nel was killed at the scene, while Khuzwayo later died in hospital after sustaining serious injuries in the attack.
The deaths triggered intensified efforts by the South African Police Service (SAPS) to track down those responsible.
Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane previously said a dedicated investigation team was following all available leads.
“We will not rest until those behind this senseless attack are found and prosecuted,” Dimpane said.
Police have continued to appeal to members of the public to provide information that could assist in investigations into attacks targeting law enforcement officers.
