Major General Ebrahim Kadwa, the head of the Hawks in Gauteng, and several other suspects are expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Monday following their arrest in connection with an investigation into the alleged illegal dealing and unlawful possession of precious metals.
The arrests stem from an intensive investigation conducted by the Gauteng Counter-Intelligence Operations unit into allegations linked to illicit precious metals transactions, corruption, and related criminal activities.
The arrests come amid growing scrutiny of senior figures within the country’s law enforcement agencies following testimony before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
Several witnesses appearing before the commission have alleged that some senior police and intelligence officials were involved in criminal syndicates, political interference and the obstruction of investigations.
