Four suspects have been arrested during separate anti-drug operations conducted by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Wakkerstroom policing precinct, Mpumalanga.
Two suspects, Mthunzi Nhleko (36) and Mpumelelo Vuyisile Malaza (38), were arrested after leading police on a chase and abandoning a vehicle containing bags of dagga. Two other suspects escaped and remain on the run.
In a separate operation on the N2, police arrested Bhekisa Justice Nkosi (35) and Mdumiseni Promise Lukhele (46), an Eswatini national, after allegedly finding dagga during a vehicle search. Lukhele also faces a charge of being an illegal immigrant.
All four suspects appeared separately in the Volksrust Magistrate’s Court and remain in custody. Their cases were postponed to 22 July 2026.
Police seized approximately 28.526kg of dagga with an estimated street value of R175,000 during the operations.
