Eastern Cape Transport and Community Safety MEC Xolile Nqatha has welcomed the arrest of a second suspect in connection with the murder of Ward Councillor Sicelo Mleve.
The 21-year-old man was arrested by police and is expected to appear in court alongside his co-accused as investigations into the killing continue.
Nqatha said the arrest sends a strong message that law enforcement will not tolerate criminality in the province.
“We hope that the arrest of these suspects will lead to a successful prosecution so that the bereaved family can find justice and closure,” he said.
The MEC also commended the police for their efforts in tracking down the suspects and urged investigators to ensure that everyone involved in the murder is brought to justice.
