ConCourt ends Ledwaba and Mohlabeng’s SAFA legal challenge

The Constitutional Court has brought an end to Ria Ledwaba and Solly Mohlabeng’s long-running legal challenge against the South African Football Association (SAFA).

The court dismissed their application for leave to appeal with costs, finding that it did not engage the court’s jurisdiction and had no reasonable prospects of success.

The matter has now gone through the Pretoria High Court, Supreme Court of Appeal and Constitutional Court, with the courts repeatedly rejecting attempts to challenge the outcome of the 2022 SAFA presidential elections.

SAFA says the latest ruling vindicates the integrity and finality of its electoral processes.

The association has also welcomed an arbitrator’s decision to dismiss a separate challenge against the election outcome in the Nelson Mandela Bay Region.

SAFA says it will now focus on its mandate to develop football and strengthen the sport’s administration in South Africa.
