Cold, wet weather and snowfall expected in Eastern Cape and KZN

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned that very cold, wet conditions and light snowfall are expected from Tuesday evening across parts of the Eastern Cape, southern KwaZulu-Natal, the southern Free State and the Lesotho border due to a cut-off low pressure system.

The weather system is expected to clear from the west by Thursday.

SAWS has issued an Orange Level 6 Warning for disruptive rain and flooding between East London and Port Edward, while an Orange Level 5 Warning has been issued for disruptive snowfall over the extreme north-eastern high ground of the Eastern Cape.

Yellow Level 4 and Level 2 warnings remain in place for heavy rain across parts of KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape, with additional Yellow Level 2 warnings for snowfall in the north-eastern Eastern Cape.

A Yellow Level 1 Warning has also been issued for damaging coastal winds and waves between Cape Columbine and Cape Agulhas.

SAWS has urged farmers to protect livestock and crops, while motorists are advised to exercise caution as flooding, icy roads and snowfall could disrupt travel and essential services.
