The legal battle over the possible deportation of former Miss South Africa finalist Chidimma Adetshina has been postponed, with the matter now expected to return to court in February 2027.
Adetshina appeared in court on Wednesday as the legal dispute over her immigration status continued.
The case stems from a long-running controversy surrounding her South African citizenship and identity documents, which resulted in the Department of Home Affairs taking steps to have her removed from the country.
The department is seeking her detention pending deportation, while Adetshina is challenging the decision through the courts.
The court was unable to make a final determination on the matter pending the outcome of her separate review application in the Western Cape High Court.
Adetshina has maintained that she has been unfairly targeted and has rejected allegations that she deliberately violated South Africa’s immigration laws.
Speaking after the proceedings, she said:
“I believe that I have been treated unfairly and targeted.”
She also called for the matter to be dealt with through the proper legal process.
The dispute gained national attention in 2024 after Adetshina withdrew from the Miss South Africa competition amid controversy over her eligibility and questions surrounding her citizenship.
She later represented Nigeria at the Miss Universe 2024 pageant, where she finished as the first runner-up, before winning the Miss Universe Nigeria title.
