A 51-year-old businessman has been arrested in connection with two malicious damage to property cases linked to separate arson attacks in Seshego and Westernburg, Limpopo.
The suspect was arrested at his Welgelegen home in Polokwane on Monday after an intelligence-driven operation by the Provincial Tracking Team and Provincial Investigation Unit.
Police allege the suspect set alight the signboard of a rehabilitation centre in Ladanna before allegedly torching a Toyota Hilux in Seshego Zone 3. The fire spread to a nearby house where seven people were asleep, but neighbours managed to extinguish the flames before anyone was injured. The damage is estimated at R800,000.
Police also seized a Toyota Fortuner believed to have been used in the commission of the offences.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Seshego and Polokwane Magistrates’ Courts on 14 July 2026 on charges of malicious damage to property. Investigations are continuing.
