Banyana Banyana are stepping up their preparations in Morocco ahead of their opening match of the 2026 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) against Tanzania on Monday, 27 July.
Head coach Dr Desiree Ellis said the team is adapting well after arriving from South Africa.
“We’ve had two sessions trying to acclimatise to the heat. We had really good sessions, and now we are looking forward to the rest of the week,” Ellis said.
South Africa, the defending champions, are in Group B with Tanzania, Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso.
Ellis has named a 26-player squad featuring a blend of experienced players and emerging talent, with six players set to make their WAFCON debut.
The coach said the team’s immediate goal is to make a strong start against Tanzania and secure qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, with the top four teams at the tournament earning automatic qualification.
