Orlando Pirates assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi is preparing for a new chapter in his coaching career after receiving the green light to leave the Buccaneers and take up a head coaching role at another Premier Soccer League (PSL) club.
The Soweto giants confirmed Ncikazi’s departure following discussions with the club’s management on Friday morning, with the experienced coach expressing his desire to return to the hot seat and lead a team in his own right.
Pirates have backed his decision, bringing an end to a spell in which Ncikazi played a significant role in the club’s technical team and celebrated an impressive nine trophies.
Although he predominantly served as assistant coach, Ncikazi also had a brief stint as co-coach in 2025, further strengthening his experience at one of South African football’s biggest clubs.
His departure marks a significant change behind the scenes at the Buccaneers, as he now prepares to take on the challenge of building and leading a team as head coach.
Orlando Pirates chairman Dr Irvin Khoza paid tribute to Ncikazi, praising his contribution and wishing him well in his next venture.
“Mandla leaves with our gratitude and our blessing. His contribution to Orlando Pirates has been evident throughout his time with us. We respect his wish to pursue this new opportunity and wish him success as he takes on a new responsibility,” said Khoza.
