SAPS launches Safer Festive Season operations

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has launched its 2026/2027 Safer Festive Season operations at Kabokweni Stadium in Mpumalanga, focusing on crime prevention, road safety and protecting vulnerable people.

Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane said police deployments across all provinces would target organised crime, hijackings, aggravated robberies, illegal firearms, human trafficking and gender-based violence.

“Our priorities include combating organised crime, aggravated robberies, hijackings, illegal firearms, illicit liquor, human trafficking and smuggling, while strengthening responses to gender-based violence and femicide,” said Dimpane.

She said additional personnel and resources would strengthen police visibility, investigations and responses to crime, particularly in high-risk policing precincts.

The operations will also focus on enforcing road safety laws and protecting tourism destinations, businesses and public spaces throughout the festive season.
