The Northern Cape Department of Education has suspended classes and examinations at all schools in the Namakwa District on Monday following a Yellow Level 4 warning for disruptive rain.
The department said heavy rainfall could cause flooding and make roads inaccessible, posing safety risks to learners and staff.
As a result, Grade 12 Physical Science and Technical Science preparatory examinations have been postponed. Replacement dates will be announced in due course.
The suspension comes as the South African Weather Service warns of heavy rain, severe thunderstorms and damaging winds across parts of the Western, Northern and Eastern Cape, among other areas.
Residents have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel and take precautions as adverse weather conditions persist.
The department has advised affected learners and staff to remain vigilant and prioritise their safety.
