A 53-year-old man accused of murder has abandoned his bail application in the Cullinan Magistrate’s Court.
The accused is facing a murder charge stemming from an incident in Refilwe Extension 3 on 1 September 2026, when a group of young people were celebrating Spring Day by splashing water on one another and people passing by.
It is alleged that the group attempted to splash the accused with water as he walked past.
The accused allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed one of the young people. The victim was rushed to a local clinic but later succumbed to his injuries.
The accused was arrested on the same day at Ekangala Hospital, after he was allegedly apprehended and assaulted by community members.
His bail application was abandoned during proceedings at the Cullinan Magistrate’s Court.
The matter was postponed to 27 October 2026 for further investigations.
