Nigerian national arrested as police seize drugs worth nearly R188,000 in Durban

A 32-year-old Nigerian national is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 23 July 2026, after he was arrested during a drug bust in Durban’s Point area.

The suspect was arrested on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, by members of the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit after police allegedly found him in possession of 11 packets of cocaine at a flat in the Point precinct.

Police estimated the street value of the recovered cocaine at approximately R33,000.

Following the arrest, officers conducted an extensive search of the same building, which resulted in the recovery of a large quantity of abandoned drugs. The seized narcotics included 830 Ecstasy tablets, Crystal Meth, and 300 grams of Methcathinone, with an estimated combined street value of R154,800.

The total estimated street value of all drugs recovered during the operation is nearly R188,000.
