The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has called on eligible South Africans to register to vote or update their voter registration details online, highlighting that its Online Voter Registration Portal can be accessed free of mobile data charges.
The commission said the portal has been zero-rated across major mobile networks, allowing citizens to register or amend their voter information without needing airtime or a data bundle.
However, the IEC clarified that while users will not be charged for accessing the portal, they must ensure that mobile data is switched on to establish a connection.
The reminder comes as preparations continue for the 2026 Local Government Elections, with the commission urging voters not to leave the process until the final stages of the election timetable.
