Matatiele Municipality tables R694.9 million budget focused on infrastructure and service delivery

Matatiele Mayor, Councillor Patrick Stuurman, presented the 2026/2027 Financial Year Budget during a Special Council Sitting held at the Maggie Tsiu-Resha Building on Thursday, outlining the municipality’s spending priorities and revenue outlook.

The municipality projects total revenue of R694.9 million for the 2026/27 financial year, with operating expenditure expected to reach R645.7 million. Capital investment is set at R157 million for the same period, aimed at strengthening service delivery and infrastructure development.

The budget reflects a continued focus on improving governance, infrastructure rollout, and institutional efficiency through targeted departmental allocations.

Key allocations include:
• Budget and Treasury: R3.2 million from Capital Replacement Reserves
• Office of the Municipal Manager: R3 million from Capital Replacement Reserves
• Corporate Services: R7 million from Municipal Reserves
• Community Services: R7.3 million for community infrastructure and service delivery programmes
• Economic Development and Planning: R7.8 million for planning and Local Economic Development (LED) initiatives
• Infrastructure Planning and Development: R128.4 million directed toward roads, electrification, and infrastructure projects

In his address, Mayor Stuurman said the budget is designed to strengthen service delivery, expand infrastructure investment, and support programmes that promote local economic development and long-term sustainability.
