More than 1.8 million SASSA social grant beneficiaries have successfully migrated from the old gold cards to Postbank’s new black cards, with more than 80% of the targeted migrations completed ahead of Monday’s deadline.
Postbank said on Friday that the migration was progressing smoothly, with increased numbers recorded this week in the Eastern Cape, Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
The bank said most elderly and disability grant beneficiaries had already completed the migration, while Child Support Grant beneficiaries account for up to 90% of those still using gold cards.
Postbank Chief Commercial Officer Thami Cele has urged those who have not yet migrated to use the remaining days to do so.
To accommodate beneficiaries, Postbank will open card replacement sites on Saturday and Sunday from 09:00.
The deadline is 31 August 2026, but beneficiaries who miss it will not lose their grants. Their accounts will remain active, and replacement sites will continue operating after the deadline.
Beneficiaries can migrate at selected Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Pick n Pay, Boxer and Spar stores. The service is free, and only a valid or temporary ID is required.
Beneficiaries can dial *120*355# from any cellphone to locate their nearest card replacement site.
Postbank said the new black cards are activated immediately upon issue, while any money on the old gold card will remain accessible.
