Suspect arrested as police seize R3 million worth of crystal meth in Diepsloot

A 35-year-old man has been arrested after police uncovered crystal methamphetamine worth an estimated R3 million during an intelligence-driven operation in Diepsloot.

The operation, conducted on 31 May 2026, involved members of Counter Narcotics Crime Intelligence, the West Rand Tactical Response Team and the West Rand K9 Unit as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in Gauteng.

Police acted on information about two men allegedly dealing drugs in the area. After identifying and searching the premises, officers discovered a black refuse bag hidden beneath a mattress containing suspected crystal meth weighing approximately 10 kilograms.

The drugs have an estimated street value of about R3 million.

A 35-year-old suspect who was found at the scene was immediately arrested and charged with possession of drugs. He is expected to appear before the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on 1 June 2026.

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni welcomed the arrest and praised the officers involved for their commitment to fighting drug-related crime.

“We remain committed to removing drugs from our streets and holding those responsible accountable. Drug peddling will not be tolerated in our province,” said Mthombeni.

Police said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug networks and prevent illegal substances from reaching communities across the province.
