Qonce police seize drugs worth R759,000 and arrest two suspects

An intelligence-driven operation by the Qonce SAPS K9 Unit Task Team has resulted in the seizure of drugs valued at more than R759,000, the recovery of a suspected stolen vehicle and the arrest of two suspects.

The operation was conducted on Tuesday, 2 June 2026, after police acted on information received about suspected drug dealing activities.

Officers executed a search warrant at a residence in Cyprus Court on Market Street, Qonce, where they discovered 13,028 Madrax tablets and crystal meth with an estimated street value of R734,700 hidden inside a storage room.

Police also found a set of Volkswagen Polo keys, which led them to a vehicle parked outside the property. Further investigations revealed that the vehicle belonged to a logistics company and had allegedly been tampered with. The vehicle was subsequently impounded for further investigation.

A follow-up search at a second property in Chute Crescent uncovered additional crystal meth valued at R24,600, bringing the total value of drugs seized during the operation to R759,300.

An undisclosed amount of cash believed to be proceeds of crime was also confiscated.

A foreign national male and a South African female were arrested and charged with dealing in drugs.

The pair are expected to appear before the Qonce Magistrate’s Court on 4 June 2026.

Police have opened two cases of drug dealing while investigations continue.
