Ntabankulu Local Municipality has officially launched the highly anticipated 2026 Ntabankulu Traditional Horse Racing and Fashion Show, unveiling the vibrant and captivating theme, “Butterfly Bliss,” during a colourful launch event attended by community leaders, local businesses, fashion designers, artists, and various stakeholders from across the region.
The launch created excitement and anticipation ahead of what is expected to be one of the biggest cultural and tourism events on the Eastern Cape calendar. The event is scheduled to take place on 7 November 2026 and is expected to attract thousands of visitors from across South Africa and beyond.
Internationally acclaimed fashion designer Makhosazana officially unpacked the theme, describing Butterfly Bliss as a celebration of transformation, beauty, freedom, elegance, colour, and cultural expression. She encouraged designers and creatives to embrace innovation and produce unique designs that reflect the vibrancy and symbolism of the butterfly.
Speaking during the launch, Mayor of Ntabankulu Local Municipality, Cllr Vuyokazi Matwasa, highlighted the growing importance of the event in driving tourism and local economic development.
“The Ntabankulu Traditional Horse Racing and Fashion Show has become much more than an annual event. It is now a catalyst for economic growth, tourism development, and job creation. Every year we see local businesses, accommodation establishments, food vendors, artists, crafters, and entrepreneurs benefiting from the increased number of visitors coming into our municipality,” said Matwasa.
She added that the municipality remains committed to creating opportunities that empower local communities while showcasing the rich culture, heritage, and talent of Ntabankulu.
The Municipal Manager also praised the impact of the event, emphasizing the role of partnerships and community involvement in building a stronger local economy.
“Events of this nature continue to add significant value to our municipality and neighbouring communities. They create opportunities for entrepreneurship, tourism promotion, and social development. There is a growing need for businesses, stakeholders, and community members to work together to ensure that development benefits everyone,” the Municipal Manager said.
Preparations for the 2026 event are already underway, with organisers expecting another successful edition that will combine traditional horse racing, fashion, entertainment, culture, and tourism under one platform.
The unveiling of the Butterfly Bliss theme has already inspired excitement among designers and fashion enthusiasts, many of whom have started conceptualising garments that embody the elegance, transformation, and vibrancy associated with the theme.
As the countdown begins, Ntabankulu is once again preparing to transform into a celebration of culture, creativity, heritage, and opportunity when the prestigious event returns on 7 November 2026
