A 33-year-old man has been arrested following the fatal shooting of a 52-year-old man at a residence in 1st Avenue, Zwide, on Saturday afternoon.
Police responded to the scene at about 13:30, where they found the victim with fatal gunshot wounds. Acting on information received, officers quickly tracked down and arrested the suspect. An unlicensed firearm and ammunition were recovered during the arrest.
The suspect is expected to face charges of murder, as well as the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. Police investigations are continuing.
Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Vuyisile Ncata praised the officers for their swift response.
“The rapid response by our members demonstrates our unwavering commitment to bringing violent criminals to book,” said Ncata.
He added, “We remain resolute in our fight against violent crime and will continue to pursue those who threaten the safety and security of our communities.”
