Six pedestrians tragically lost their lives in a devastating incident on the R61 road near Redoubt, Mbizana in the Eastern Cape Province. Transport Spokesperson, Unathi Binqose said the collision occurred around 23H00 on Friday night. Binqose said a BMW sedan, reportedly driven by a lone male heading towards Port Edward, struck the group of men walking along the road.
“Five victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while a sixth succumbed to injuries en route to O R and Adelaide Tambo hospitals in Mbizana. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled after the crash, prompting a police pursuit. The sedan has since been impounded for investigation.”
“Authorities have opened a case of culpable homicide to determine the cause of this tragic accident”, Binqose concluded
