The South African Police Service (SAPS) has arrested four suspects, including current and former Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality officials, during a takedown operation in Johannesburg linked to the Madlanga Commission’s recommendations.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the suspects were arrested overnight by the Commission’s Recommendations Task Team and are expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
The arrests form part of investigations into allegations of corruption, abuse of power and misconduct within the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) and the municipality.
The latest arrests come hours after suspended Ekurhuleni head of legal services Kemi Behari was arrested following his disciplinary hearing. Former city manager Imogen Mashazi has also reportedly been instructed to present herself to investigators.
