Five people have died following a head-on collision involving a Toyota Corolla and a VW Polo on the R334 road in Kariega on Sunday afternoon.
According to the Eastern Cape Department of Transport, the VW Polo was travelling from Motherwell towards Kariega with three occupants — two men and a woman.
The Toyota Corolla was travelling in the opposite direction towards Motherwell and had two male occupants.
The collision claimed the lives of all five people travelling in the two vehicles. Emergency services declared all five occupants dead at the scene.
A case of culpable homicide will be opened at Kariega SAPS for further investigation.
Eastern Cape Transport MEC Xolile Nqatha expressed his condolences to the families and loved ones of the five victims.
