Most mountain passes in the Eastern Cape have reopened to traffic after heavy snowfall forced their closure for much of Monday.
Snowfall has subsided across the province this morning, allowing authorities to reopen the affected routes. However, motorists are being urged to remain cautious as roads remain wet and slippery.
The Penhoek Pass on the N6 between Komani and James Calata is experiencing particularly thick fog and drizzle, resulting in poor visibility and challenging driving conditions.
Meanwhile, low-lying areas extending towards the coast are still experiencing cold temperatures, steady rainfall and mist.
Authorities are urging motorists to reduce their speed, maintain safe following distances and exercise extreme caution, particularly when travelling through mountainous areas.
