A 66-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for repeatedly raping an 11-year-old girl in Monyakeng, Wesselsbron, in the Free State.
The Wesselsbron Regional Court heard that the abuse began in December 2024. On 15 February 2025, the accused lured the girl into a bedroom while she was visiting her grandmother, locked the door and raped her.
Other children witnessed the incident through a keyhole and alerted the grandmother, who reported the matter to police.
The man was sentenced on 22 October 2026 and ordered to be listed on the National Register for Sex Offenders. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
Lejweleputswa District Commissioner Major General Tholie Afonso welcomed the sentence, saying it reinforced the zero-tolerance approach to crimes against women and children.
