A 42-year-old suspect accused of double murder, assault and hijacking has been arrested in Kariega after more than a year on the run.
According to police spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said the suspect was arrested on 26 October 2026 after he was spotted at a tavern in KwaNobuhle. He allegedly tried to flee when he saw police but was apprehended.
The charges relate to incidents in June 2025, when a man was allegedly murdered over an alleged affair with the suspect’s wife. The suspect allegedly kidnapped a 53-year-old woman and hijacked her vehicle before fleeing. The woman’s body was found days later near Murraysburg.
The hijacked vehicle was recovered in Kariega on 11 June 2025.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court on 28 October, with a separate appearance at the Robert Sobukwe Magistrate’s Court expected in connection with murder and hijacking allegations.
Major General Rudolph Adolph commended the police teams involved in the arrest.
