Four senior officials in the Department of Correctional Services, including its Chief Financial Officer, have been suspended pending an investigation into alleged fraud linked to a coal supply tender.
The department said a criminal case has been opened with the Hawks, while a forensic investigation will be conducted to determine the extent of any irregularities.
Correctional Services Minister Pieter Groenewald welcomed the developments, reiterating his commitment to fighting corruption and ensuring that officials found guilty face consequences.
The department said it would cooperate fully with the investigations to ensure those responsible are held accountable.
