The Eastern Cape Department of Transport has urged motorists and other road users to avoid the R61 Road to Ngcobo amid a protest in the area.
Protesters have barricaded several roads leading into the town, disrupting traffic on the R408 to Dutywa, R58 to Elliot and R61 to Cofimvaba.
The department has advised motorists to use alternative routes, including the N2 from Mthatha to Tsolo Junction.
Traffic officers have been deployed to the affected area to assist motorists and direct traffic.
Motorists are urged to exercise caution and avoid the affected routes until the situation has stabilised.
