Four people were killed and four others, including two SAPS officers, were injured in a mass shooting in Kayamandi, Stellenbosch, on Sunday evening.
Police responded to reports of gunfire in 7th Avenue, where they found one deceased victim. While at the scene, officers heard more shots and encountered armed suspects who allegedly opened fire on them. The officers returned fire, forcing the suspects to flee.
Two police officers and two civilians were wounded and taken to hospital. Four unidentified men were later found dead with gunshot wounds, while a 9mm firearm was recovered for forensic analysis.
The Western Cape Serious and Violent Crime Unit is investigating four counts of murder and four counts of attempted murder. No arrests have been made, and the motive remains under investigation.
