Ramaphosa extends Madlanga Commission deadline to November 2026

President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended the reporting deadline for the Commission of Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference, and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System, widely known as the Madlanga Commission.

The Commission will now submit its final report on 16 November 2026, instead of the previous deadline at the end of August.

In a statement, the Presidency said the extension sets an evidence deadline of 2 October 2026 and a final reporting deadline of 16 November 2026.

“The extension allows the Commission to close off topics that have emerged during hearings and hear evidence on all the matters contained in its terms of reference. Without the extension, large parts of its work would remain unfinished,” the Presidency said.

The Commission was established to investigate allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi on 6 July 2025, relating to criminality, political interference and corruption within the country’s criminal justice system.

To date, the Commission has submitted two interim reports to President Ramaphosa.

The Presidency said the President remains appreciative of the Commission’s work and commended law enforcement agencies for acting on testimony presented during the inquiry’s public hearings.
