Committee to review progress in Mkhwanazi allegations investigation

The Ad Hoc Committee established to investigate allegations made by Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi will today consider its interim report on work completed to date, receive an update on outstanding consultations, and deliberate on its proposed programme going forward.

The committee has heard testimony from several key witnesses as part of its inquiry, including suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, businessman and alleged political fixer Brown Mogotsi, forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan, and former National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega. The committee has also considered evidence related to former National Police Commissioner Bheki Cele and former acting commissioner Khomotso Phahlane.

The inquiry was established following allegations made by Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi and is tasked with examining the claims and related matters. Tomorrow’s meeting is expected to assess the progress of the investigation and map out the committee’s next steps.

The committee’s work forms part of Parliament’s oversight role in ensuring accountability and transparency within South Africa’s law enforcement and criminal justice institutions.
