Penny Penny quits MK Party and Parliament amid claims of internal conflict

MK Party Member of Parliament, Gezane Eric Kobane, widely known as Penny Penny, has submitted his resignation from both the organisation and Parliament, citing internal party conflict and reputational damage.

In a letter dated 15 May 2026 and addressed to MK Party leader Jacob Zuma, Kobane said his decision followed alleged attacks and “vilification” from provincial leadership in Limpopo, which he claims undermined his dignity and reputation.

He stated that while he joined the party voluntarily and served to the best of his ability, ongoing internal disputes made his continued involvement untenable. Kobane also thanked Zuma for the opportunity to serve in the National Parliament, expressing gratitude for the platform provided to represent the public.

The resignation marks another internal setback for the MK Party as it continues to navigate organisational tensions and leadership disputes.
