A 39-year-old woman is expected to appear before the Mthatha Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder after a suspected love triangle turned deadly in Ngangelizwe township.
The incident occurred late on Tuesday night at a property on Gcolotela Street, where the suspect and the victim, a 34-year-old woman, were both tenants.
According to police, tensions flared after allegations emerged that the suspect’s boyfriend was involved in a romantic relationship with the deceased. An argument reportedly broke out between the two women, escalating into violence.
Police allege that the suspect armed herself with a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times in the upper body. The woman sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene.
The suspect was arrested on Wednesday and is expected to make her first court appearance on Thursday.
OR Tambo District Commissioner, Norman Modishana, condemned the incident and called on community members to seek peaceful ways of resolving disputes.
“People must learn to resolve their problems through peaceful means, as violence is never the solution,” said Modishana.
Police investigations into the murder are continuing.
