Former Bafana Bafana and Manchester United midfielder Quinton Fortune believes Orlando Pirates could struggle to replace Relebohile Mofokeng following the youngster’s move to Europe.
Fortune expects Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns to remain the leading contenders for the Betway Premiership title, but believes Mofokeng’s departure leaves a significant gap at the Soweto club.
His comments come as Orlando Pirates prepare to face AmaZulu in a highly anticipated Betway Premiership clash at Kings Park Stadium in Durban tonight, 12 August 2026, with both sides looking to build on positive starts to the 2026/27 league campaign.
Fortune described Mofokeng as a key player for Pirates, while praising Sundowns’ financial strength, recruitment strategy and ability to attract top young talent.
Despite Pirates ending Sundowns’ dominance of the league, Fortune believes the Brazilians will remain the team to beat.
The former Manchester United midfielder also revealed his long-standing support for Kaizer Chiefs and recalled his admiration for club legend Nelson “Teenage” Dladla.
Fortune hopes Chiefs can rebuild and eventually return to the top of South African football.
