The National Assembly approved three candidates—Tembinkosi Bonakele, Mpho
Mosing, and Lufuno Nevondwe—for consideration as chairperson of the National
Lotteries Commission board, following a selection process requested by Minister Parks
Tau.
The DA voted against the report, citing concerns over Bonakele’s role in the current
board’s failure to compensate whistle-blowers, calling it a principled protest. However,
the ANC accused the party of undermining black excellence, a claim the DA denied.
Despite the DA’s opposition, the report passed with majority support, and the minister
will make the final appointment after possible additional vetting.
