Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean Macpherson has directed that a senior Construction Project Management (CPM) director be placed on precautionary suspension and face disciplinary proceedings following the official’s arrest on fraud charges.
The director appeared in court on Tuesday in connection with allegations linked to a R113 million tender involving the Mpumalanga Department of Education. The tender, established between 2018 and 2019, was intended as an emergency intervention to repair 21 schools in the province.
According to the minister, the official was arrested alongside other accused persons for allegedly defrauding the provincial education department of funds earmarked for critical school infrastructure.
Although the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) was not involved in issuing the tender, Macpherson stressed that officials within his department are expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity.
