Severe weather warning issued for KZN and Eastern Cape

The South African Weather Service has cautioned residents in KwaZulu-Natal and parts of the Eastern Cape to prepare for severe thunderstorms expected on Monday.

A Yellow Level 2 warning has been issued for most of KwaZulu-Natal and the extreme northern parts of the Eastern Cape, where heavy rainfall, hail, lightning and damaging winds could result in localised flooding and damage to infrastructure and settlements.

The weather service has also issued a Yellow Level 1 warning for damaging winds in western parts of the Free State and the extreme eastern Northern Cape.

These winds could affect settlements and agricultural areas, while falling trees and dust storms may create hazardous travel conditions.

Scattered showers and thundershowers are expected in parts of the eastern seaboard and along the Lesotho border.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are also forecast in parts of North West, Northern Cape, Free State and Limpopo.

Residents are advised to monitor weather updates and exercise caution in areas affected by the warnings.
