The South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA) is encouraging eligible Grade 12 learners and recent matriculants to apply for its Scholarship Programme before applications close on 30 October 2026.
The programme is designed to help academically capable young South Africans overcome financial barriers to higher education and pursue careers in the accountancy profession.
For many students, the cost of tertiary education remains a significant obstacle to achieving their academic and career goals. Through this initiative, SAIPA aims to provide financial support to deserving learners who demonstrate academic potential, financial need and a commitment to studying accounting.
The scholarship is open to South African citizens who are currently in Grade 12 or who completed matric within the past two years. Applicants must intend to enrol for a full-time BCom Accounting degree at a South African public university and have achieved a minimum of 70% in both Mathematics and English.
Applicants must also meet the programme’s financial eligibility requirements. Combined annual household income must not exceed R350,000, increasing to R600,000 for students with disabilities.
“Academic potential should not be the only factor determining whether a young person can pursue higher education. Through this scholarship programme, we aim to support deserving learners who have the ability and commitment to enter the accountancy profession but may face financial barriers,” says Constance Mogagabe, Scholarship Coordinator at SAIPA.
The selection process is designed to assess applicants’ readiness for tertiary studies and their potential to succeed in the profession. Candidates will be required to complete an entrance examination aligned with the National Benchmark Test (NBT), followed by interviews to evaluate their academic potential and personal attributes.
By investing in aspiring accounting professionals, SAIPA seeks to contribute to the development of the skills and talent required to strengthen the accountancy profession and support South Africa’s broader economic development.
With the application deadline fast approaching, eligible learners are encouraged to submit their applications by 30 October 2026 and ensure that all required supporting documents are included.
The scholarship represents an opportunity for qualifying students to take an important step towards a tertiary qualification and a future in the accountancy profession.
