Government is stepping up efforts to secure South Africa’s borders through improved infrastructure, technology and coordinated law enforcement operations.
Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi says Cabinet has approved a 2026–2030 Borderline Infrastructure Improvement Plan covering all seven border provinces.
More than 4,200 undocumented foreign nationals were intercepted trying to enter the country outside official ports between April and July.
Almost 90,000 people have been repatriated, while 81 joint border operations were conducted in July.
The Border Management Authority is also using drones, scanners and body cameras to strengthen surveillance and combat illegal crossings and corruption.
Government says it will continue working with neighbouring countries to secure the borders while facilitating legitimate travel and trade.
